Is $8,300 to apply a level 5 skim coat to a 1040 sqft apartment a fair price?

I genuinely don't know anything about a Level 5 skim coat, and this is the first time I've heard of it. My apartment was a gut job, and we've torn out a lot of the drywall, so my contractor recommended coating the entire thing once we're done.
