Is $4,200 to replace leaking cast iron drain with PVC a fair price?
Project Details
My cast iron drain is leaking at the plug and is all corroded. I want to rip up and replace a portion of it. I was quoted $4200, but I believe renting tools and buying parts would cost me about $500. My plan is to rent concrete removal tools, remove concrete around the entry point and maybe another 2 or 3 feet, cut out the cast iron, and replace it with PVC. This is similar to what the professional quote includes. I'm wondering if I'm oversimplifying the job or missing anything obvious, as my biggest concern is messing up and being stuck without working toilets or sinks. I've had the pipe scoped, and it looks fine a few feet in. I've received a few quotes, ranging from $3800 to $4200. The working space is very cramped, located between my furnace/water heater and under the stairs.
