Is $150,000 to build a pool a fair price?
Project Details
I started my pool project on November 1st, with a promised completion date of April 1st, but it's now mid-June and the job is still not done. I've spent $150,000 total so far, and this project has been a complete disaster. Multiple pool professionals have told me that based on what was done, this should have been a $200K–$220K build, suggesting the contractor underbid and is now cutting corners. I've refused final payment due to the many issues that need to be fixed. I am located on the central coast in California. The contractor is licensed. While his price for the pool build was in line with other bids (others quoted $170-175k and $200k), I chose him because he gave me a much better deal on concrete and retaining wall work, which was done well. My main issue is with the pool work. I am a disabled combat veteran and saved for 9 years to make this happen, only for it to turn into a disaster.

Significant issues have been encountered with the quality of work, including: - Tile work: Excessive haze and leftover grout on the glass tile around the spa. - Stone work: Stone adjacent to the glass tile is constantly wet, suggesting improper sealing or water getting behind the stone. - Stone wall: Dried mortar smeared all over the face of the 70-foot stone wall.
