Is $4,000 to install a solid pool safety cover a fair price?

I currently have a mesh safety cover that blocks 95% of the sun on my L-shaped pool (44' x 34' at greatest dimensions). I live in a rural area with many trees, and my pool gets dirty when opened in the spring due to leaves collecting on the cover. This year, the pool turned green because it was so dirty and my salt cell wasn't working. My brother-in-law's pool is pristine with a solid cover, and I'm wondering if solid covers are worth the extra weight, hassle of putting on/taking off, and the need to run a pump to remove rainwater. I'm also hesitant about the recommendation to re-drill the concrete holes for closer spacing.
