Is $4,000 to replace malfunctioning salt system a fair price?

Project Details

My pool guy said my salt system was malfunctioning. I'm not sure if I made the right choice by opting for the conversion. I plan to sell my home in about two years and am not in a position to invest much into a salt system again. I feel bad because the previous owner installed it, and I always received positive comments about having a salt system. I never swim in the pool, but my parents occasionally do. I didn't want to spend $4000 to replace it, and the $315 conversion seemed more feasible. Two different pool guys mentioned my current salt system isn't well-known, and one had difficulty with it, so I thought converting might make maintenance easier.
