Is $500 to replace a seal on a main pool pump a fair price?
Project Details
I understand that pools are expensive. I currently pay a service $150 per month for weekly cleaning, which includes chemicals. I handle the dumping myself because I enjoy using my test kit and Pool Math to monitor things. The service owner noticed a trickle from the seal area on my main pump and asked if I wanted them to replace it, which I agreed to as it would save me time. After the repair, I noticed the power line into the pump was taped up, but I assumed the connector was brittle from the sun and cracked. I was surprised by the $500 charge for a seal/gasket replacement, as it seems very high, nearly 25% of a new Pentair variable pump. I've asked for an itemized receipt to understand the cost better and determine if I'm being overcharged. I've used this company for a couple of years but have recently noticed a significant increase in recommended repairs and costs. The filter is very accessible, so I'm wondering if the cost was mostly labor.
