Is $900 to replace pool pump a fair price?
Project Details
My pool pump turns on for about 1 minute and then switches off by itself. It's probably old enough to be replaced. I'm a handy guy and might want to attempt replacing it myself to save labor costs, as times are tough. My pool pump is set up to run 3 hours every day, plus manually run for 3 hours twice a week during cleaning. The pool is small but reaches 7ft deep. I'm wondering about the benefits of a higher HP unit and if Century is a good replacement brand, as my pool guy recommended it. I ended up installing a Century variable speed unit (1.6HP 48Y frame) myself with my dad, costing $485 in parts from a friend in the industry. It took us 3 hours to install and it's working well.

The pool guy offered to replace the existing pool pump with a new, more modern, and better model. The diagnosis for the current pump is a bad motor. This quote is for the replacement service, excluding a previous capacitor replacement cost.
