Is $9,150 to demolish and fill in a pool a fair price?

Project Details

I have a 16x38 in-ground liner pool, approximately 23,000 gallons. My main concern is that I will have to deal with the pump and filter disposal on my own, whereas a quote from last year included disposal. I bought my house about 5 years ago. We purchased an elephant cover for the pool, and I need to replace the pump and either the sand or the entire sand filter soon. We installed a cheap pool fence last year and drilled the holes in the concrete ourselves. I also bought a dolphin robot vacuum a few years ago. I don't know much about pools, and with the cost of opening/closing, chemicals, and other additional expenses, I feel it's a waste of money and would rather pay to get rid of the headache. I was hopeful for a similar price to an old post where someone relatively close had the same job done for $9k a year ago. This quote is from someone my cousin is friends with who does digging and grading professionally. My wife reached out to a local company specializing in pool fill-ins, and they quoted between $10-20k for the work.

Repair an old inground pool

This quote is for repairing an old inground pool that has been out of use for over 10 years. The homeowner has already removed most of the liner. The repair would likely address: - Broken piping at the deep end (drain piping)- Replacement of the pump and filter, which have been sitting in the pool- Repair or replacement of the rusting/rotting metal wall at the top, potentially involving cutting and welding a new strip

Open an in-ground pool

This service was quoted to make the pool ready for use. - Remove pool cover (note: washing of the cover was not included, and the pool guy wanted to fold it dirty and wet) - Shock the pool to eliminate algae - Backflush and rinse the filter - Apply chemicals or use the salt water generator (SWG) as needed to achieve clear water and a clean pool
