Is $4,300 to repair a ceramic tile roof valley a fair price?
Project Details
I am in a difficult situation regarding my nearly 100-year-old ceramic tile roof. I was getting water in a closet and hired a roofing company for a valley repair. They started the work, which involved replacing the metal valley and removing tiles, but it took longer than expected (4 days instead of 2). They went all the way to the top of the roof and claimed they ran out of usable tiles, stating my existing tiles are in poor condition and keep breaking, making it hard to find matching replacements. They have now stopped the repair and are pushing for a full roof replacement, offering a discount. I haven't paid them for the initial repair yet. I'm concerned this might be a tactic because they went over budget or want my old tiles. I would prefer not to pay for a new roof right now and am leaning towards keeping my current tiles. I want to know if I can ask to help find replacement tiles or if color-matching is an option. The original metal valley was rusted out. I want to approach them respectfully, but I also want them to finish the job if I decline the new roof.
