Is $8,000 to replace asphalt shingles a fair price?
Project Details
My initial impression is that the quote to install the 1/4 plywood sheathing is high, especially since it's nearing the cost of new shingles. The sheathing is proposed to meet warranty requirements due to potential board gaps exceeding 1/4 inch, which could void the entire roof warranty. I am questioning whether it's more financially sensible to forgo the sheathing and save the $5500 to cover potential storm damage repairs myself, especially since we experience hurricanes. I've confirmed with the shingle manufacturer that my existing 1" thick board roof deck meets minimum thickness requirements, but I'm still clarifying their specific requirements for maximum board-to-board gaps and overlaid plywood thickness for warranty purposes. I am also considering an upgrade from the base 30-year shingles to a higher grade.
