Is $12,400 to replace roof with 15 new metal box vents a fair price?

I need my roof replaced. I currently have 15 box vents. Another contractor quoted me $16,000 to install ridge vent instead of box vents, which is more expensive than the $12,400 quote I received to replace the roof and install new box vents. My house is 20 years old. I don't have a preference for the vent type, but I'm asking about the difference.
