Is $36,291 to replace roof a fair price?

Project Details

I was expecting a price between $15k-$22k based on my research, so this quote of $36,290.50 is much higher than anticipated. I previously received a quote from a large corporation for $33k. At this price, I am strongly considering DIYing it one face at a time or holding off and selling my home. My house is 1600 sqft with an attached garage and a hip roof, one story, not steep. I believe there are two layers of shingles, but the quote seems to be for removing only one layer, which I'm unsure why, as they walked the job. I also measured my roof around 32 squares, but the quote is for 35. The drip edge and ridge cap line items surprised me, and I will follow up to confirm they are correct. The contractor mentioned some delamination but wasn't sure how much decking would need replacement until the shingles were off; I assumed the $35 line item was the price if none needed replacement, but I will call to clarify. The ridge cap price was also a surprise. I am in a less expensive, somewhat rural area, which might play a part in pricing.
