Is $185,000 to replace asphalt roof with DaVinci multi-width slate composite (Bid 1) a fair price?
Project Details
I am comparing two quotes for replacing my asphalt roof with DaVinci multi-width slate composite shingles on my 25-year-old home. The project involves 50 squares and 12/12 slopes with 11 flashings. I am in the Chicagoland area, in a gated community. I am trying to understand the significant price difference between the two bids ($185k vs. $115k) and am concerned about potential underbid tactics or different quoting practices for neighborhoods. I am also considering Class 4 GAF and Certainteed asphalt roofs, for which I've received bids that are only about $5k different from each other. I need to know if the recommendation for new, larger gutters with DaVinci shingles is a real requirement or just an upgrade, as one bidder mentioned a 1-inch edge in a 5-inch gutter requiring larger ones, while the other dismissed it.
