Is $25,000 to add a single Enphase 10C battery to an existing solar system a fair price?
Project Details
I have an existing Enphase solar system that came online this year, but it lacks batteries, which is unfortunate as I can't use my power production capacity when the power is out. I'm considering adding batteries versus installing a whole home generator, but I prefer to use my existing panels during outages. I experience frequent power outages, sometimes lasting up to 36-40 hours. I was hoping for a total cost closer to $20,000 for a 20-30kWh system, especially with the federal incentive ending this year, which I fear will lead to a 30% price hike. I suspect this quote might be an "FU" quote because my contractor is very busy. I'm also concerned about being locked in with my current installer, as others seem unwilling to work on existing systems. I'm worried about the modifications needed for the mains and main panel. My current system uses an Enphase controller for PV panels with I8C micro inverters. This is strictly for power backup for some basics, and I would like automatic failover. I've looked into DIY solutions like EcoFlow but am unsure about automatic backup capabilities.
Quote Details
This quote is for the initial installation of a single Enphase 10C battery to an existing Enphase solar system. The work includes switching the PV from grid-tied to batteries and rerouting necessary components. The system is expected to manage automatic failover (PV -> batteries -> AC). Each additional Enphase 10C battery would cost $7,000. The initial installation cost (excluding the battery itself) is estimated at $18,000, covering labor and extra hardware.

Add an Enphase 5P battery and upgrade solar inverters
This quote is for adding an Enphase 5P battery to my existing 11-panel (4.785 kW) Enphase solar solution, which currently uses IQ7 inverters and an IQ Combiner 4. The primary purpose of the battery is for time of use shifting in my grid-tied NEM 2 system. The quote includes several components: - Enphase 5P battery installation - Planning and design services - Replacement of my existing 11 IQ7A inverters with IQ8A inverters. This upgrade is stated as necessary because PG&E is reportedly requiring Power Control System (PCS) limitations to prevent overloading and meet the 120% rule for grid-tied setups, which the IQ7 micros are not capable of handling.
