

Is $30,925 to install a 12.42 kW solar system a fair price?
Project Details
My annual electricity usage is about 7,000 kWh. My home is from the 1920s and has poor insulation. I sized the system up because I plan to get an EV and a heat pump in the future, and I might use electric space heaters to reduce my gas bill. I was looking for a good installer and recommend talking to people who had solar installed in the area and working with local companies. I chose SunPath and had an outstanding experience. I believe it's important to consider a new roof if your current one is only a few years old, to sync its lifespan with the panels. I also believe it's important to use Enphase micro inverters for independent panel operation. My panels are on the east and west facing sides of my roof, with some trees blocking early morning sun on the west side. I opted for a squirrel guard for protection, which also resulted in a concealed rack system. I have 1:1 net metering in Portland, allowing me to bank credits in summer for fall and winter use. I'm happy with the system and the feeling of generating my own electricity.
