Is $29,000 to install a 10.44 kW solar system with Q.TRON panels and Enphase IQ8HC-72 inverters a fair price?
Project Details
I'm trying to get solar installed before the 30% credits expire at the end of the year. My roof angles are not optimal, and one section has a large tree next to it. Other companies have avoided or minimized panels in that section, but one company proposes a larger system (15.05 kW) that covers this section with 7 panels. They claim other companies aren't accounting for shade, which I interpret as them compensating for shade with a larger system. While this larger system is more expensive overall, it has a lower cost per Watt and could allow for future energy use increases, like if I get an EV. I'm questioning if it makes sense to install panels in areas that only get early morning sun. I also have concerns about critter guards; the sales rep for the larger system advised against them, stating they trap debris and limit production, but I have many squirrels and pigeons and believe critter guards are necessary. The price for the larger system seems a bit suspicious, even though the company is reputable. Both quotes are different from what was initially quoted on EnergySage after discussions. I expect some modifications after the site survey for the larger system.
