Is $33,250 to replace 11 windows with Vinyl Kraft casement windows a fair price?
Project Details
We have 11 original Andersen casement windows from when the house was built about 40 years ago. They have wood interiors and vinyl exteriors, but condensation has caused the wood to warp and rot, leading to drafts and bugs. Our LP Smartside siding butts right up to the window frames with only caulk. I'm feeling confused by the different installation methods proposed. Contractor A suggests a buck frame replacement, while Contractor B wants to use nail fins (which requires cutting siding), and Contractor C suggests tearing down to the studs. There's also a debate about exterior trim; Contractor A says aluminum coil is enough, while B and C recommend adding trim. We've been saving for five years for this project. We previously got a quote from Renewal by Andersen for $80,000, which was too high. We're also debating between casement and slider windows, as we want to maintain the uninterrupted glass look but are worried sliders might be a downgrade.
