Is $15,000 to install tile flooring a fair price?
Project Details
I've received a couple of bids for flooring. I'm okay with the contractor proposing actual square feet plus 10% for material overage. However, I'm questioning why all boxes of flooring, including the 10% overage, are charged at the installation rate on the labor line. I would potentially be paying installation labor for boxes that are left over and uninstalled. I tried to get the contractor to remove these fees, but he refused, though he might offer an allowance for unused material, which I might keep an extra box of anyway. Another contractor bid 15% extra material, which I thought was too much. The project involves tile flooring in an area with odd angles and a kitchen island. I didn't object to the 10% overbuy, just to the labor burden on it, but now I understand it's standard. I'm spending around $15,000 on this part of the house's floor.
