Is $8,000 to prepare concrete slab and install LVP flooring a fair price?

Project Details

I recently purchased this split-level home, which has a mostly slab foundation. The existing carpet on the lower/main level was very old, dirty, and buckling, so I had a contractor replace the carpet on the upper levels. I want to install LVP on the lower/main level, which is about 750 sqft, and was hoping to do it myself due to the high quote. I've removed the old carpet and found the concrete slab has several issues: uneven outer edges, chips, a crack, and a significant depression near the basement stairs. The living room also has a large hump, with the middle being 1"-1.5" higher than the outer edges over 9-10ft, which exceeds the 3/16" over 10ft flatness requirement for the LVP I'm considering. I'm concerned about dust generation from grinding and the cost/application of self-leveling compound for such a large area.

Quote Details

I received a quote for preparing the concrete slab and installing Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring on the lower/main level of my home, which is approximately 750 sqft. The work would involve addressing various issues with the existing concrete slab to meet LVP flatness requirements, followed by the installation of the LVP flooring.Specific preparation tasks would include: - Grinding down uneven outer edges, particularly around subslab duct outlets - Repairing chipped concrete in front of the patio door and around tack strip areas - Filling a decent crack in the middle of the house near the stairs - Applying self-leveling compound to address a significant depression at the top of the stairs to the basement and a large hump in the middle of the living room, where the middle is 1"-1.5" higher than the outer edges over 9-10ft
