Is $1,500 to install hardwood floor in the kitchen a fair price?

My contractor is installing hardwood floors throughout my house. Initially, the kitchen was not included, but I now want to extend the new hardwood there. The contractor quoted $1500 for the kitchen, stating it's more work. However, based on his previous rates of $2/sqft for removal and $5/sqft for installation, the cost for my 50 sqft kitchen should be $350. I am concerned this quote is significantly higher than expected and am questioning if this is normal or if the kitchen genuinely requires that much extra work.
