Is $3,000 to install red oak stair tread overlays a fair price?

I am a novice and wanted advice, as $3,000 for stairs is a significant amount for me, representing about 1/5 of my overall project cost. I still need to paint the stringers and risers myself. I'm worried about the quality of the work and if they can do it correctly, as I don't want to have to touch these stairs again for at least a couple of decades.
