Is $20,000 to install floating LVP flooring a fair price?
Project Details
I was out of town while the LVP flooring installation work was being done. A couple of months ago, I received the estimate and thought everything was set. However, once they tore out the old floor, the contractor informed me that the new LVP would sit lower than the previous flooring and that they "needed" to add plywood. I don't recall discussing this previously. The plywood upgrade was originally quoted at over $5,000, and I pushed back hard. We eventually agreed to add plywood only on the main floor because I wanted it to look more finished, especially around the door jambs/casings. Overall, the floors look great, except for the exterior doors. The contractor finished every exterior door threshold with a thick, uneven silicone bead. It already grabs dirt and looks sloppy/unfinished, as if the silicone is being used as the transition. What's extra annoying is that I still have two unopened 4-in-1 transition/molding kits that were ordered for the job and never used. I am questioning if this is a normal way to finish exterior doors with floating LVP and if there should be a real transition piece there instead of a big silicone line.
