Is $3,500 to replace or repair the evaporator coil a fair price?
Project Details
My evaporator coil is leaking. I am fairly handy and have done many DIY projects, including replacing my car's clutch, and I'm considering replacing the entire AC system myself. I found a complete system online for $5,700, including the furnace. My current unit is in the attic, so I anticipate needing more refrigerant than what comes with a new system. I have a friend with an HVAC contact who can handle the refrigerant filling and related tasks. I'm trying to understand the actual difficulty, tool costs, and time commitment for a DIY replacement versus paying for labor. I plan to get another quote from my buddy's HVAC contact. If I do it myself, I would use an R410a system and reuse the existing air circulation/ductwork.
