Is $625 to repair fallen and ripped ductwork a fair price?
Project Details
My AC stopped blowing cold, so I had someone come out for a diagnostic. The diagnostic fee was $125, which was supposed to be deducted from any repair work. I have an old R22 unit that they said they couldn't do much with. The invoice for the duct repair was $625, which seemed like a lot for the work done, especially if it implies a $750 value before the deduction. I later found out the HVAC technician's license is expired. When I asked for a detailed invoice of parts, material, and labor, he responded by threatening to put a lien on my house. This made me completely suspicious, and I feel like I'm being robbed. My mom just says to pay him to make it go away. I have since called out another company, and this time I checked their license number before they came. The new company found that the disconnect pull out switches for both of my units have disappeared. The new quote to replace these switches is about $330 for parts and labor, plus another $30 to buy two padlocks. This $360 is an expensive lesson, but it's still cheaper than the $650 the first guy was asking for.
