Is $4,800 to replace the HVAC unit a fair price?

So inside the house is cooling, but the unit outside is making a loud HMMMMMM noise and the fan won't spin. The AC guy came and said that the motor needs to be fixed. Then he looked at the inside unit and said the whole thing needs to be replaced since its so old and he's charging $4800 to do it. Does that sound right? Should I look for a new guy? I really am unsure how to research this. The guy did say that this is a private company and its an LLC
