Is $20,000 to replace HVAC system a fair price?

Project Details

I bought my house last year, and the AC/Heat was working well until a recent heat wave. Now I have a lot of water in the basement. My HVAC guy says the blower might be broken, which led to the coil freezing and the drip tray cracking. The onboard circuit board also seems to be malfunctioning, as sometimes the outside unit turns on but the inside unit doesn't. My current system is 16 years old, and the cost to repair it would be about 30% of the replacement cost, so it's probably time to replace it. I'm feeling very stressed and overwhelmed by all the different condenser and furnace models. I'm unsure what to do or pick. I'm also confused about "digital ready" condensers and whether I need a variable speed furnace if I get a variable speed condenser, especially since I already have Wi-Fi thermostats. I need advice on whether this is a good deal and if I should explore other models, as it's a lot of money.
