Is $2,800 to replace an evaporator coil and recharge refrigerant a fair price?
Project Details
My AC unit, which is about 8 years old, had a refrigerant leak on the evaporator coil, causing the house to average in the 80s. After the evaporator coil replacement and refrigerant recharge, the living room was barely cooling to 79F with the thermostat set to 72F. I had to top off the refrigerant myself with 2lbs of R410a because the HVAC guy initially dismissed the issue, saying "it's hot outside," and later became unprofessional when I questioned him. He also suggested my 4-ton unit was undersized for my 2400 sq ft house with dual zones. Additionally, he taped over leaking drain plugs. I regret trusting him and paying with a check. He is offering to reimburse me $150 for the 2lbs of R410a and wants the empty tank back. The AC is currently working well after I topped it off, but I plan to call a professional HVAC company to check everything over.
