Is $19,000 to install a Lochinvar combi hot water heater/boiler a fair price?
Project Details
I was just quoted $19,000 for a Lochinvar combi hot water heater/boiler install, which seemed crazy high to me; I was expecting maybe half that. My home has an old boiler that needs to be removed. The boiler supports our radiant heated floor system, which has been in place for 58 years. I'm concerned the pipes in the floors could fail, making a fancy new boiler seem less sensible if I might abandon radiant heat. The company verbally said the work would take roughly 5-6 hours, which I find surprising given the cost. My home already has an older boiler and a manifold, so it's mostly a replacement without needing to add much else in terms of piping or manifold. I've had mini splits installed recently (which took 5 days and cost less), and other replacements like hot water heaters, furnaces, and AC units took about a day and were not this high. My home is unique in that it has no attic or crawl space. This is the only estimate lately that has truly shocked me, compared to concrete polishing, mini splits, and roofing. I will be getting more estimates.
