Is $2,300 to replace a cracked heat exchanger in a Trane furnace a fair price?
Project Details
My Trane 95% efficiency furnace has a crack in the heat exchanger. The unit is easy to access in an attic with flooring. I question the pricing because a previous quote from the same tech for an ignitor replacement seemed highly inflated. The company seems to be pushing for a full replacement rather than a repair. I believe proactively replacing the inducer motor and pressure switch is unnecessary. The furnace is almost 15 years old, and the heat exchanger has lasted a long time. It's not currently causing any issues like CO in the house or roll out.
