Is $3,000 to install an outside HVAC unit a fair price?
Project Details
My current HVAC unit was installed in 2006, and the outside AC unit is not working. The technician confirmed the compressor is fried and some connections were burnt, making it unsalvageable. I'm getting another quote tomorrow. I'm unsure if I should replace just the outside unit or the entire system, given its age (19 years old). I'm concerned if replacing only the outside unit would cause it to fail again or degrade rapidly due to other old system parts. I also wonder about the furnace. The contractor is a newer, younger guy who has done work for my dad and sister, and I know him personally. I believe prices might be cheaper here in Ohio compared to city HVAC companies.
