Is $1,400 to replace motor and capacitor on Trane TTX AC unit a fair price?

I am a total noob trying not to get taken advantage of. My Trane TTX’s motor and capacitor went bad 16 months ago and were replaced. I am now having an identical issue with the motor and capacitor. The company that replaced it inspected it for $70 and stated it's the exact same problem, but it's not under warranty, so I'll be out another $1400. I'm looking for advice on the motor's warranty (specifically for a Genteq 142R, as Regal Evergreen series seems to have a 2-year warranty) and whether it can be replaced with a non-ECM or generic motor. My local supply shop suggested a $150 generic motor, but an electrician friend is skeptical due to potential wiring complexities. I suspect the module is the issue with the current motor. My unit is a Trane XL15i.
