Is $1,700 to replace an AC ECM variable speed motor a fair price?

I’m in New York and was just quoted $1700 for parts and labor to replace the ECM variable speed motor in my Trane system. The only physical symptom I’ve noticed is an intermittent grinding noise. The tech said the motor is the issue. My warranty on functional parts expired in 2021 for the air handler and 2023 for the AC. Originally, they told me I’d just need the ECM variable speed motor replaced, but now they’re suggesting a whole new unit might be needed. The motor was off, and the tech sent me a video of him manually spinning it with his hand, and it would make a slight grinding noise. My unit is from 2017. I'm wondering if I’m getting jipped and if $1700 for parts + labor sounds reasonable.
