Is $5,700 to install a 60k BTU, 96% efficient furnace a fair price?
Project Details
My HVAC technician found very high carbon monoxide (CO) readings (300-500 ppm, compared to a normal under 50 ppm) and soot buildup on the exhaust of my furnace, indicating that the heat exchangers are not working properly. I had to sign a liability waiver due to the CO levels. This furnace has been heating my house for years and always acted the same, and the last technician didn't mention any issues. I have two furnaces in my home, and this quote is for one of them. The furnace is 30 years old and 80% efficient, and the piping needs to be redone. The initial quote was $8400, but it dropped to $5700 after I delayed. I know I could buy the furnace for about $1600 myself, but I have no desire to install it. I'm trying to determine if $5700 is a reasonable price for the installation or if I'm still being overcharged, and if I should get more quotes.
