Is $15,000 to insulate all ductwork and replace ceilings a fair price?
Project Details
Last year, I replaced my old HVAC system with an Amana 2.5 ton 16.2 SEER heat pump (model ASZS603010) with backup gas. Since then, I've noticed significant condensation on the visible ductwork in my utility closet, and I'm concerned about condensation on ducts in the ceiling and potential mold, as all my ducts appear to be uninsulated. My condo is a historic building from 1921, with the last major renovation in 2001, and I'm on the top floor, which seems to exacerbate the issue. I've received conflicting advice from multiple companies regarding whether insulation is necessary or if the current setup is to code. The original installers insulated the first few feet of ductwork and told me the system's airflow cannot be adjusted automatically. I'm trying to avoid a costly project of ripping out ceilings to insulate all ductwork, and I'm unsure how to proceed or if the original installation was faulty.

Insulate existing HVAC ductwork
Insulate all existing HVAC ductwork in the basement area being refinished. This is recommended by the HVAC company due to observed rust, mold, and condensation on the existing lines, and because the area will no longer be conditioned space once drywall is reinstalled.
