Is $13,000 to replace furnace and AC with Trane units a fair price?
Project Details
My current system is a 25-year-old downflow Rheem Criterion II furnace and Rheem Classic X AC. It's serviced yearly, but the tech says parts are no longer made, and finding a replacement heat exchanger is unlikely. It's currently running fine and is located in an uninsulated outbuilding attached to my slab-on-grade home with ducting underneath the slab. A year ago, I got quotes for a heat pump, but most HVAC companies here discouraged it, and it was too costly. Given rapidly rising costs, I'm unsure whether to replace it ASAP or continue to gamble. I'm wondering if equivalent efficiency can be achieved for much less these days and if I'm crazy not to proceed with replacing it immediately to avoid more price increases.
