Is $1,000 to install a condensate pump and potentially replace pipes a fair price?
Project Details
My AC stopped working again due to the safe-t switch filling with water, which is the same issue I had about 4 weeks ago. The tech checked it twice today and confirmed there's no clog in the AC drain line and no problems or damage with the HVAC system. They couldn't explain why it keeps filling but suggested installing a condensate pump and potentially replacing pipes. This is a newer build home, with the HVAC less than 2 years old, and I believe they should be able to fix this without needing a condensate pump, as I'm sure other homes around here don't have them. I've tried pouring water down the drain line, which temporarily resolves the issue. I'm also concerned because the tube for the safe-t switch connecting to the HVAC isn't fully tight, and the soft yellow part it attaches to is wet and drips a little, which I suspect might be causing the issue. The tech also advised against using vinegar or drain cleaner, contradicting previous advice. They mentioned the p-trap is already in the ground and another one isn't needed.
