Is $376 to replace a capacitor a fair price?
Project Details
I had an AC tech visit for a summer service. My wife heard a loud noise from the AC compressor fan, which she had never heard before. The tech then stated the capacitor failed and could not finish the service. The original capacitor is 16 years old and likely past its life. I initially heard they wanted $250, but the actual quote was $376. I am questioning if the tech intentionally caused the failure or if a stress test during service led to it. We have used this company for 16 years without issues, but this was a new tech for us. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but my wife's observation makes me suspicious.
