Is $400 to replace AC capacitor a fair price?
Project Details
My AC was on but no cold air was coming out of the vents. A technician tried to sell me a capacitor replacement for $400, but didn't guarantee it would fix the issue, suggesting it might be the motor which would cost $2000. I was trying to save money on this old unit before needing a full replacement, so I considered replacing the capacitor myself. I am knowledgeable enough to know capacitors store electricity and carry their own risks. I ended up replacing the capacitor myself for $12, and now the AC is functioning. I was also concerned about the technician's lack of professionalism, as they attempted to replace the capacitor without my girlfriend's permission while she was on the phone with me.
