Is $1,000 to install an Aprilaire system and modify furnace return a fair price?

I sought this installation to improve indoor air quality due to allergy issues, specifically to enable the use of a higher MERV filter than my previous 1-inch MERV 8. The HVAC company recommended the Aprilaire system, stating it would protect the blower and allow me to use MERV 13, or potentially MERV 16, filters. I am disappointed because, despite the installation, the measured pressure drop (0.78") with the included MERV 11 filter is too high to safely use MERV 13 filters, which was the primary reason for the upgrade. I believe the company should have measured the total pressure drop beforehand to inform me if high MERV filters were feasible, as I would not have paid $1000 otherwise. My furnace is a 2021 Goodman MES80 with an ECM motor. While my blower manual indicates it can maintain over 1000 CFM at 1" pressure, the rating plate states a maximum pressure rating of 0.5", which is concerning given the current 0.78" reading.
