Is $4,500 to replace compressor, TXV, and refill refrigerant for a Lennox ML17XC1 AC unit a fair price?
Project Details
My Lennox ML17XC1 AC unit, which was installed new with my home in December 2023, recently stopped cooling. The system is less than 2 years old, so I'm honestly shocked something like this would fail so soon. I'm frustrated since this is a relatively new system, and I didn’t expect such a major failure so soon. I'm trying to understand if the $4,500 price seems reasonable for this work, if a refrigerant leak could have caused the compressor failure, if it's true that a leak test can't be done until the compressor is replaced, and if I should contact Lennox or push for a second opinion before spending this much.
Quote Details
This quote covers the repair of a Lennox ML17XC1 AC unit that stopped cooling. - Compressor replacement - TXV (thermal expansion valve / metering device) replacement (possible clogging) - Refrigerant refill - System testing The HVAC company mentioned a possible refrigerant leak but stated a leak test cannot be performed until after the compressor is replaced and the system is running again. There is a possibility of a future coil replacement if a leak is confirmed, which would incur additional costs.
