Is $3,500 to replace all ducting in the crawl space a fair price?
Project Details
I recently bought a house built in the 50s. I had an HVAC tech come out because a couple rooms run cold in the winter and hot in the summer. They found a big hole in one of the return ducts near the furnace blower, which was previously patched with spray foam. Most of the flex ducting in the crawl space looks old, with insulation visible in many places. I'm trying to determine if replacing all the ducting makes sense or if it's an 'everything' recommendation. The heating and cooling in the house is spotty, partly due to single-pane windows. The nursery has the worst temperature regulation, sitting around 65 degrees with the heater running all night, and I want to improve it, though it's not directly connected to the crawl space. I'm trying to understand the impact of the hole and if there are other solutions, as money is a little tight. We live in the south, experiencing hot summers and winters with temperatures often in the 20s. This issue is not surprising given other problems we've had with the house.
