Is $9,000 to replace all flex duct in a crawlspace a fair price?
Project Details
I have a 1980s ranch style home. The ducts were apparently updated in early 2010. Recently, I've had a mouse problem, and the HVAC guy observed chew marks from mice, suggesting they've chewed through the ducts. He also noted system failure from failed duct support, rust and deterioration at the duct boots, with some pulling away from the subfloor. I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt as he seems like a good guy, and I saw him do my neighbor's HVAC replacement. However, this quote seems high, and I need to get more quotes. I was debating on sheet metal ducts because I heard they were more durable, but after seeing this quote, I scrapped that thought. I don't want to diminish the work involved, especially in a crawl space, but I needed a gut check on the price.
