Is $7,800 to replace the evaporator coil a fair price?

Project Details

My AC stopped blowing cold air, only blowing air. The motor and everything else is good, but the coil is apparently leaking. The tech said someone used putty to seal the shell so he couldn't get all the way into it, but tests showed low pressure and refrigerant. The quoted price of $7800 sounds high to me. I have two more quotes scheduled. The tech also suggested getting a new unit for $15k, which felt off, so I called to get more quotes.
