Is $500 to replace high and low pressure switches and refrigerant a fair price?
Project Details
My outside AC unit stopped working, with the inside blower running but only blowing room temperature air. I attempted to replace the capacitor myself, but it didn't resolve the issue. The unit is a Trane system and is less than five years old. I'm looking for advice on how to prevent the high pressure switch from failing again and general HVAC maintenance tips. I use a MERV 13 filter, changed every 4-5 months due to a shedding dog. My metal ducts are old but deemed 'fine' by technicians. I partially close most registers to improve cooling in my office and bedroom. I've realized my previous outdoor unit cleaning wasn't thorough, and I had another technician perform a deep clean after this repair. I typically keep my house between 69-71 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer, and the unit can run for 5-6 hours constantly on very hot days. The technician initially quoted $900 for the repair but charged $500, which I was happy to pay.
