Is $400 to replace the HVAC outdoor fan motor a fair price?
Project Details
My HVAC was not cooling. An HVAC technician initially replaced the capacitor and washed the coils for $400, but the unit stopped cooling again shortly after. The fan was not running, but the compressor was. After turning off the breaker, it started fine, but the motor was extremely hot. I'm concerned about the motor's temperature and whether it's normal for an outdoor unit to be that hot when the ambient temperature is 90F. I'm also considering replacing the motor myself to save money. The HVAC unit is a Goodman GSX140481KD. I'm also wondering if the new capacitor (50+5uf) is the correct size, as the previous one was 45+5uf.
