Is $23,000 to replace AC condenser and air handler a fair price?
Project Details
I have a refrigerant leak in my existing 1999 Heil condenser and 1999 First Air Company unit. Additionally, mice chewed wires from the condenser along the line-set, causing a Y1 no power error on my Nest thermostat. The tech found green dye in the line, indicating a previous attempt to find a leak and an additive for micro leaks. My condenser went as low as 4 degrees, which the tech said is very low, making him confident the unit needs to be replaced as it's an old R22 unit. I'm a little confused by the proposal's last part regarding wiring and line set, as it seemed contradictory, and I need to clarify it. This is a significant amount of money, and I'm trying to determine if the quote is reasonable. I'm considering getting another opinion for $109. The company is putting some pressure on me, mentioning a slot open soon and offering extra years of warranties, but I confirmed the quote is valid for 30 days. I plan to call around and get more estimates to compare.
