Is $2,400 to fix the Schrader valve and refill the unit a fair price?
Project Details
I'm struggling to get my 15-year-old heat pump working. Insurance sent a contractor to inspect it. The contractor put nitrogen in (around 100psi) without disconnecting the fuses. The unit then ran for two days, making a loud noise, and I'm concerned it might be damaged. The temperature was around 85-90F during this time. The heating/cooling was always enabled on the thermostat. I believe adding gas to the unit caused it to run, as it didn't run when completely empty. A previous technician had pulled the fuses, but the current one did not. I'm hoping the nitrogen pressure test picture the technician showed me is in the file. I'm hesitant about proceeding with the repair given the recent issues.
