Is $1,500 to upsize master bedroom ducts and move attachment points a fair price?

Project Details

My house is 2200 sq ft, mainly one floor with 200 sq ft above the garage. I have a one-year-old 18 SEER American Standard Heat Pump split system with variable speed, installed in July 2024. There are two zones, one for downstairs and one for upstairs. My master bedroom and bathroom are on the opposite side of the house from the outdoor condenser unit and are on the south side of the house with large French doors and a bubble window that get intense afternoon sun. Even with the new system, the master bedroom/bathroom gets 2-4 degrees warmer or colder than the rest of the house, even if the door is open and there is a return right outside the bedroom. I use blackout curtains and temporary insulation on the bathroom window to help. I'm hoping to avoid adding a return in the bedroom due to noise. The new system was installed because the old one failed, not specifically to address this issue, but it did include increased return duct size and went from two-speed to variable speed, which I hoped would help.

Add a new 6-inch HVAC duct to a bedroom

The quote is for adding an entire new 6-inch duct to a bedroom. The HVAC technician explained that adding another duct would effectively make it a 12-inch equivalent (two 6-inch ducts on opposite ends) to get more airflow in the room. - Work: Add a new 6-inch duct - Placement: On the opposite end of the room from the existing 6-inch duct - Rationale: To increase airflow in the room
