Is $5,000 to replace the whole outdoor unit a fair price?
Project Details
Looks like I had a mice get into the control panel. They chew a couple wires. I had an electrician come out and splice those wires (I could do myself but wanted to be certain it was done correctly). Still getting the error code after that fix. I checked all connections. None are loose. I thoroughly checked for any other loose or chewed wires and there are none. Parts are under warranty but not for rodent issues. Looking to see if there’s any other troubleshooting I can do before I explore other options.

Replace a circuit board in my central air outdoor unit
This option involves repairing the existing 5.5-year-old central air outdoor unit. The current unit's warranty expires in September, and the board replacement is not covered due to mouse damage. My current system is going out of production next year, meaning future issues would require a full system replacement (indoor and outdoor units).- New circuit board: Mitsubishi T7WB50323 (costing $1000 for parts)- Labor: Cleaning out the unit and installing the new board- Contingency: HVAC technician notes that there may be more issues than just the board, which can only be determined after the board is replaced and tested.
