Is $1,474 to replace a TXV in an AC system a fair price?

My A/C went out last Friday, and a tech came to check it on Monday. My house doesn't have a basement, only a crawl space to access the A/C and furnace, which I know is difficult to maneuver. After inspection, the tech informed me the TXV was completely closed and needed replacement. I initially expected the cost to be less than $800 to $1,000, especially since the part itself is only $329. I'm a new homeowner and don't know much about HVAC. I'm getting a second opinion tomorrow. My crawl space is set up terribly, and I hate being down there.
